Tertiary treatment of dairy industry wastewater with production of Chlorella vulgaris biomass: evaluation of effluent dilution

نویسندگان

چکیده

Secondary wastewaters from the dairy industry may cause eutrophication of water bodies when not properly treated, mainly because they contain nutrients such as phosphorus and nitrogen. Tertiary treatment using microalgae could be an adequate solution for Minas Gerais State, largest Brazilian milk producer, contributing to reduction environmental impacts, well providing biomass oil extraction, obtaining active compounds inputs (including proteins) animal feeding. In this work, dilutions (with distilled water) secondary wastewater were evaluated cultivate Chlorella vulgaris in a bench-scale tubular photobioreactor. The results indicate feasibility industry, after treatment, microalgae, showing cell growth like that obtained control cultures (Bold basal medium). without dilution (100% wastewater) provided best condition production. showed no differences Bold medium (control) terms protein, lipid content, or fatty acid profile.

Use of Chlorella vulgaris microalgae in the treatment of dairy wastewater

Background and Objective: Nutrient-rich effluents (mainly nitrogen and phosphorus) may lead to algae blooms and many harmful effects in aquatic environments. Micro-algae have been more effective among the various methods used for the removing of nutrients from wastewater. Microalgae Chlorella vulgaris has specific characteristics such as rapid growth, resistant to systems manipulation, simple a...

Biomass Production and Wastewater Treatment from Aquaculture with Chlorella Vulgaris under Different Carbon Sources

Algae are sustainable sources of biomass for fuel, food, feed and essential for their growth are light, CO2, and inorganic nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorous. The aim of our study was to explore the effect of different carbon sources on biomass accumulation in microalgae Chlorella vulgaris and its ability to remove N and P compounds during its cultivation in aquaculture wastewater. Microal...

High efficient treatment of citric acid effluent by Chlorella vulgaris and potential biomass utilization.

The efficiency of treating citric acid effluent by green algae Chlorella was investigated. With the highest growth rate, Chlorella vulgaris C9-JN2010 that could efficiently remove nutrients in the citric acid effluent was selected for scale-up batch experiments under the optimal conditions, where its maximum biomass was 1.04 g l(-1) and removal efficiencies of nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, t...
